“The child’s inner need: Help me to do it by myself” – Dr. Maria Montessori
This is a famous saying from an Italian educator – Doctor Maria Montessori, which is considered a guideline for educators to keep pursuing and developing the Montessori educational method. It can be understood that Montessori philosophy has changed the concept as well as the traditional notion of the teachers’ roles in the classroom, especially for children in the golden period of having an absorbent mind.
In the Montessori environment, the teacher is not the one who teaches the child, but the one who creates the environment by instructing and observing the child. In particular, the teacher’s observation capacity is significantly focused to ensure a standard Montessori learning environment.
- Observe to explore the hidden potential in each child
With the belief that children will show their true ability when they concentrate on the work they love. Therefore, at IMA, teachers are always closely and directly observing to discover the hidden talents of their children and to stay ready to help when needed.
- Observe to require a child freely nurture their independence
Montessori philosophy highlights the experience of freedom within certain limits. The sense of freedom in the growing up journeys can boost independence, problem-solving skills, and discipline. Being carefully observed by teachers, our children’s “exploring” journey can be driven with the appropriate path and executed safely.
- Observe to pursue natural development for children
Each child has their own pace of growth in different periods. Hence, with observation and orientation, a kid can catch up at their speed and pursuit holistic development.
- Observe so that their growing up journey is getting more meaningful and completed.
Applying this philosophy, the IMA classroom has always been a “Home for children” that is covered with passion and ensures safety. At this place, their development progresses in terms of cognition and capabilities are directly and carefully observed by dedicated teachers who were coached and trained by the American Montessori Society (AMS).
Each of your steps, each of the skills and development you possess every day are faithfully guided and followed by the teachers to ensure comprehensive growth in the future.
